As the most effective medium for technical information, patents include more than 90% of the world's latest technical information, which is 5 to 6 years earlier than the information provided by general technical publications. The content is informative, accurate and novel, and directly expresses the original information of technological innovation. Through statistics on the number of patent applications, patent application types, and patent composition categories in the textile field, we can analyze the development trend of textile patents and understand the technological innovation in various textile technical fields.

1. my country’s patent applications as a whole show a gradual growth trend
As of 2014, my country's patent applications as a whole showed a gradual growth trend, with the cumulative number of applications over the years reaching 10,411,774, with an average annual growth rate of 17.68%. Among them, there are 5,011,063 invention patents, accounting for 48.13%; and 5,400,711 utility model patents, accounting for 51.87%. The entire development trend can be divided into the following three stages:
The first stage (1987-2000): The number of patent applications in my country is relatively small, with an average annual growth rate of 14.28%; the number of utility model patent applications is slightly higher than that of invention patents, but the growth rates of the two are basically the same;
The second stage (2001-2009): my country's patent applications as a whole maintained a sustained growth trend, with an average annual growth rate of 17.81%. The growth rate was slightly higher than that of the first stage, but the increase was not large. Among them, from 2001-2004, the number of applications for invention patents and utility model patents was about the same, and the growth rate was consistent; from 2005-2009, the number of applications for invention patents grew faster than that of utility model patents;
The third stage (2010-2013): The overall trend of patent applications in my country has changed significantly, with an average annual growth rate of 30.65%, the fastest growth, and peaked in 2013, with the number of applications reaching 1,679,337. Among them, the number of applications for utility model patents has increased faster than that of invention patents. The total number of applications fell back in 2014, mainly due to the decline in new utility patent applications, while invention patents still maintained a growth trend.

2. Textile patents are generally at a disadvantage in the field of patent technology in my country.
Textile patents are in a weak position among my country's patented technologies, with their overall proportion hovering around 2% and declining in recent years. Except for 2002, the proportion of patent applications in my country's textile industry to the number of patent applications in my country fluctuated between 1.61% and 2.22% from 1987 to 2014, and has remained at 1.8% ± 0.5% in recent years, of which it was 1.84% in 2013 and 1.74% in 2014.

3. Patent applications in my country’s textile industry are gradually accelerating
Patent applications in my country's textile field have generally maintained a gradual growth trend, with an average annual growth rate of 16.76%. As of 2014, the total number of applications over the past 28 years has reached 171,205, including 82,022 invention patents, with an average annual growth rate of 17.42%; and 89,183 utility model patents, with an average annual growth rate of 16.2%, which is lower than the growth rate of invention patents and the overall growth level. Among them, the growth rate in the past five years has been the largest. In 2014, 2013, 2012, and 2011, they were 2.19, 2.33, 1.98, and 1.36 times that of 2010 respectively. In 2014, affected by the decline in utility model patent applications, the total number of applications fell slightly.

4. Reasons why textile patents are in a weak position
(1) Although my country's textile industry has a complete industrial chain, a large industrial scale, and a large number of enterprises, it is still mainly OEM (OEM) as a whole. The level of product quality is not high. Enterprise operation and management experience is relatively lacking. Technological development is mainly based on follow-up and imitation, and independent innovation capabilities need to be improved.
(2) Weak awareness of intellectual property protection. Limited by technological development, as well as the lack of market protection mechanisms and low overall quality of talents, my country's textile enterprises generally have a weak awareness of intellectual property protection. With the upgrading and transformation of industries and the substantial progress of technology, the independent innovation capabilities of enterprises have gradually increased, and enterprises have paid more and more attention to the protection of intellectual property rights such as technology.
(3) Social public services are imperfect. Textile enterprises vary in size, with obvious characteristics of being "small (small scale), scattered (relatively dispersed), and remote (located in small and medium-sized cities, and far away from urban areas)". However, there are few corresponding patent agencies, coupled with insufficient knowledge about patent applications, the application procedures are relatively cumbersome, which seriously frustrates the enthusiasm of enterprises with originally weak awareness of intellectual property protection.
(4) Talent shortage. Enterprises have a serious shortage of talents in intellectual property management, and society has relatively little training and demand for such talents. However, in recent years, with the guidance and support of national policies and the increasing awareness of corporate intellectual property protection, professionals in intellectual property-related fields have become a hot spot for employment.
(5) The construction of a sound legal system is slow and lacks support and guidance from relevant supporting policies. my country promulgated its first intellectual property law - the "Trademark Law" in 1982, the "Patent Law" in 1984, and the "Copyright Law" in 1990. The overall progress of the construction of the legal system is slow, and while improving the relevant legal system, the relevant supporting policies and powerful and effective measures have not been followed up. The legal system is not sound and perfect, and it is difficult for enterprises to effectively protect their intellectual property rights. For example, although enterprises have applied for patent protection, counterfeiting and piracy still occur one after another, which seriously affects the enthusiasm of enterprises to apply for patent protection. At the same time, it also reflects that there are many deficiencies in my country’s legal system for intellectual property protection and the lack of effective and powerful regulatory protection mechanisms.
